2nd of May, 2014 Update –
I was going to do an update for this post sooner, but only just got around to adding it in now.
I spoke at a conference in January, where I did a presentation on Parasite SEO –
This presentation gives a bit more insight into some of the affiliate stuff I’ve done over the past few months and shows it in an easy to share format.
If you’d like to share this presentation or use it yourself, then share the post below to get it –
Terry Kyle, the owner of Traffic Planet, Sunday SEO and now SEO Traffic Hacks had a Skype interview with me around 2 weeks ago now all about his new product and his previous successes and failures in the SEO and Internet Marketing field. I thought I’d further expand on this with my very own Parasite SEO Experiments. First though, here’s the full interview below and a bit about Terry’s Awesome new Product, SEO Traffic Hacks as well as his amazing Parasite SEO Diary that he’s been working on throughout November.
Parasite SEO Diary & SEO Traffic Hacks
Terry’s been working on an awesome parasite SEO diary through out November, and for those who haven’t seen it, I highly suggest you check it out! The diary covers the process of him building numerous Parasite pages, building up their link profile with private blog networks and Fiverr gigs and finally showing you how they rank. SEO Traffic Hacks is Terry’s brand new paid forum, skype group, webinar group, guides, blog and more! He offers a ton of content and support via the forum and skype group – The Skype group is more to buy but gives you access directly to Terry himself 24/7! As well as you get access to amazing tips such as getting dofollow backlinks on CNN, Whitehouse.gov and other huge sites, that won’t break your bank!
My Parasite SEO Campaign –
I wanted to do a few different things with my own campaign, firstly I wanted to test if a page would rank for keywords within the content if we just used branded anchor texts and secondly I wanted to convert as many phone calls as possible to Godlike Marketing‘s phone number, and try and get some good clients. So, firstly I looked at what pages Terry recommended and looked for pages that were free to setup. I finalized with Rebelmouse, Prolog.org and Storify to build some actual pages then built up some YouTube videos afterwards, though the YouTube videos were more to push traffic to my blog rather than Godlike.
Building Rebelmouse –
After you’ve signed up for Rebelmouse using a social profile, you’re going to want to go this link and click the “Launch New Site” button which will create a brand new site for you, try to do this with a keyword optimized URL. Then head over to the “Design” tab and select “Use Giant Splash”, now you can start importing content into your page.
Check out my Example page here which looks like this –
So, go to your site’s homepage and hover over the header (normally where your profile picture is) click “Edit Header” then select your header type as “Add Large Header Image” upload a rectangle image of your logo or even a “Call us” with phone number graphic and then click “Hide Site Title and avatar”.
Next, add your Splash header which will act as your pages title, so I chose in my example page “Looking for eCommerce SEO? Call Godlike Marketing on 01214000235” which will be our big call to action for any visitors to the page. Then you’re going to want to add your pages content, just build up a related article and add it underneath your splash image, you can also add things like YouTube videos and other images to fill up the page and add even more content to the page – As some may know if you have a YouTube video on your page, it tends to rank a lot better!
To finish off go to your site’s dashboard, which is here, click “Edit Site” on your parasite page and you can fill out your Meta information (Site Title is your Meta Title) which further helps with your SEO!
Building Storify –
One you’ve registered for Storify, you’ll want to post your first story which is kind of like a blog post. There’s a few things you’ll need to make sure of though, as to add content (other than text) you’ll need to use either social media or Google search to find the likes of Images, YouTube videos, tweets etc…
Here’s my example story page here.
So, now you’ve registered you’ll want to go to this page to create your story. Storify is really simple when it comes to building your pages, your title is what will be used as the permalink and your meta title, and the content of your story is your text. The design page just looks something like this –
The left side is what your post will look like and where you put the blocks of text or images or videos or whatever you’re finding by using the box on the right to add content to, so try to make sure your companies logo is indexed in Google so you can add the logo, if it isn’t then you can just insert a link block, like I did on my page.
That’s it! Your storify page is done and ready to go viral!
Building Prlog.org –
PRLog is a free press release distribution site, though they do offer premium packages if you’re looking to get your site indexed with the likes of Google News and such. Though there free service is fantastic!
Take a look at my example press release here with PRLog.
Once you’ve got all your account registered and setup (which requires both phone and email confirmation) you’ll be asked to fill out all your companies information, kind of like setting up a company profile on a directory.
You can view my companies one here. Once you have everything setup, you’ll need to head over to the Manage Press Releases page and click the “New” button. Select your pressroom (Mine would be Godlike Marketing, but yours will be your own company that you setup during the register process) click Free, or if you’re wanting to get some Distribution on your press release you can choose from one of their 2 packages. Then just enter the captcha and hit the “Create” button. Then, it’s just a case of adding all your content to the page and publishing it. Once you’ve published it, you can also check the traffic and statistics by going back to the manage press release section, this is my press releases stats –
Building YouTube Parasite Videos –
I put together 2 videos for my parasite videos, they’re the videos I also use on my micro-sites. Setting up a video is pretty easy to do and relatively cost effective. I make my videos with Camtasia Studio, here’s my example video –
For your description, you’re going to aim for 500 words, take a look at Jacob King’s video here, which ranks #1 on Google for “kontent machine coupon” though it’s not a big keyword, it can still be very lucrative if people search it. His video has no links, and just an epicly hilarious description, I spoke with him about it and he just decided to try and write as much in the description as possible.
He ranked the video #1 within 12 hours of it going live.
Building BuzzFeed Pages –
A quick tip when registering your BuzzFeed account, if you’re running AdBlocker it will just show the loading spinning sign after you click Sign up, so just head straight to your email after you’ve pressed the Sign up button and you should have a Confirmation Email. So, once you’ve signed up you’ll want to go here to post your new Article to BuzzFeed.
BuzzFeed is kind of like Storify, but the pages (In my opinion at least) look a lot cleaner. Though BuzzFeed has higher authority, it does put adverts on your page for their other content pieces and has the big Communtiy BuzzFeed logo in the top left of the screen. Setting up BuzzFeed pages is really easy though, like Storify you have blocks, but you add the content via links, uploading images etc.. Instead of finding the content via the search concept of Storify.
The first thing you’re going to want to do is build your keyword optimized title, this’ll be the meta title. For my title I did “ECommerce SEO Services by God of SEO” then, you’ll have your short description, which also counts as your meta description and goes under your title, I try to make this around 1 line and 2 lines at max, so it doesn’t take up too much room on the page. Your first block is going to be your call to action, this’ll be the bit that people say first so make your block’s header the main call to action, my header for the first block is a phone call to action where people have access to Godlike Marketing’s phone number and can quickly give us a call.
Then, you’re going to want to add the rest of your content, in my page I wrote a few 100 words, put up a related YouTube video (with the header as my keyword, to further optimize the page) and then had a final call to action with the phone number and logo.
Buidling Links to your Pages –
For each parasite page I did, I put together a buying strategy so I could get a nice, solid link profile to help boost the authority and ranking of all the pages I’d just built. Here’s some of the things I used to do so.
Blog Network Posts –
I used my own blog network for some of the links I built, you can order them here to give it some real power, as Terry said – I prefer using little amounts of links as possible to get the highest ranking possible. My network was perfect for 10 or so posts on each parasite page!
Alternatively, GreenLabelSEO do a pretty awesome blog network here at around $3 per post! It’s a quite strong network and offers an average DA of 25, not quite as kick ass as mine but it’s a cheaper alternative!
Fiverr Gigs –
I already knew quite a few good gigs, and due to the power of these domains, it means we can already put up some spammy links (though I don’t like them being “too” spammy) using the likes of social bookmarks.
50 Blog Posts by SpookSEO – This offers blog posts on micro-web 2.0 blogs that have some good authority behind them already, these are fantastic just to give you a quick boost, though I suggest using something like IndexEmperor to get the links indexed quickly, as it can take a few weeks for your links to come through otherwise.
50 Blog Posts by dwijat – This is the same as Spook’s – I do prefer Spook’s though as the quality of content he puts up (Unless you want to submit an article to them) is generally a lot better than that of this gig.
90 Blog Posts by seohighquality – Another couple blog posts on a web 2.0 network, good contextually and I suggest using these with the lower authority parasite pages so you get more links for your money.
800 Social Bookmarks + Ping by SpookSEO – These are good just to add some more links to your profile, I do suggest not just using these on there own though or you’ll probably not ranking very well and make sure to give Spook manually spun social bookmarks, which you can follow my tutorial here on manual spinning.
The 301 Technique –
The 301 re-direct technique has been used by a ton of black hats over the past couple of months and has been all around the forums (Black Hat Underground, which have an ad in my sidebar, even has a dedicated section for this in their forum) and it’s a really good technique to scare away prying eyes. So, I was looking to target the keyword “ecommerce seo” this past weekend and I bought this domain – ecommerceseo.pw as well as building some good links to it from my network and a few other sources.
Then within namecheap (my domain registrar) I made it a 301 back to a Storify page I’d built to target this keyword, and in case any of these parasite pages get removed/edited by the admins of the sites, you now haven’t wasted money on building links to that URL and can just 301 to a new page you’ve built!
So first, go to the domain you’ve just bought to 301 and click the “All Host Records” then simply add your URL on both the @ and www line, and select the Record Type as a “301” then input your TTL as 1800, like this –
Now your 301 is done and you can start link building to it!
The results were pretty awesome! I only built the pages around a week ago from posting this guide and managed to secure 9 phone calls from people interested in my services within my county (West Midlands in the UK) which 4 I’ve been following up with via email and hopefully will be working with soon. Pretty awesome for a couple pages and SEO related keywords aren’t even that heavily searched here! I did build the first video a lot better than the second, as well as for a higher volume searched keyword. I’ve managed to now get over 70 views on the video in just a few days – The majority being from search engines.
